Hello?…
Is this thing on?
Hm, lemme see…
Ah! Here we go!
Hullo everyone! I’ve missed you. And by everyone, I of course mean my parents and the two friends who read this thing. Hah! I’ve been a little busy recently. I had put off doing any real reselling for the last year after selling through 12-55 gallon totes of natural fiber yarn. I had been to a yard sale near Bonney Lake in 2023 and we’d found some good stuff. The couple were retired and spent their time doing large storage unit flips. Last year, in February of 2025 they had another big sale where they listed off a whole lotta stuff, and as an afterthought they mentioned they had ‘some’ yarn. I didn’t see any other yard sales posted that looked any good, so I made the trek over and it turned into an amazing find. I walked up and they had 12-55 gallon totes full to bursting of yarn, mostly natural fiber, which is much more valuable and each tote was $75! I knew immediately what I was looking at and purchased 2 totes. I took them home and started listing the best looking ones. They started selling immediately for full asking price on eBay. I started just sitting on the money from the sales because the woman selling the yarn had mentioned they were doing a second weekend a couple of weeks later. She knew I was very interested and took my number in case anything changed. When I went back, I brought $900, was the first person in line and I bought every single tote. I took half of them home then went back for the second batch and when I got there, they had found MORE YARN! 😄 Yeah, I bought it all. I sold everything online I knew would sell well and for a lot. The rest I sold on WhatNot, the auction bidding site. There were a lot of single skeins and roving (unspun wool, sometimes colored, sometimes raw) I sold those by showing a skein and adding it to a bag, showing another skein and adding it to the same bag. I’d do that until the bag was full, then auction it off. Bags of the single skeins were going for about $60/bag and up. There is a significant sized community of crafty yarn buyers on WhatNot and word gets out. They have their own flocks in many instances and make their own yarn. They enjoyed watching the shows and volunteering their expertise. It was such a great experience.
This year, I decided to go ahead and continue to resell. I’ve been having some luck finding really great things. I found a yard sale where the couple had moved from Tacoma to Olympia and were trying to get rid of stuff her mom had left behind when she passed. Her mom had been an estate sale organizer and had just a ton of stuff. I spent $240 and purchased about 75 Xbox games, 20 Dungeons & Dragons manuals from the 80s in good shape and some Disney plush. The plush ended up being a poor investment, though there was a Raggedy Ann that sold for $40. The games sold quickly, mostly lotted together for about $215, and the DND manuals (along with some Warhammer books) sold for about $345. I still have stuff listed from that sale.
Now I want to show you what I found last weekend at the annual West Seattle Community Yard Sale! I had a plan and immediately ditched it. I was really waffling about where to start. I lived in West Seattle for a huge chunk of my life and so I knew where the ‘good’ areas were going to be. However, I was a little early and driving around to see if anyone was set up. I saw a couple pulling things out of a tote and thought I’d just start there and then walk around a little bit. I went over and looked through some big box PC games (Fallout 3, The Elder Scrolls IV, etc.). They were asking $1 each. Great! Now I also know what kind of yard sale sellers they are. They are the ‘let’s get rid of everything at a reasonable price’ kind of sellers. I finish looking through the games, stand up, and look to my left. The guy is just finishing placing this

on the table. Then he put this

I purchased all the things along with some games for the ColecoVision for $250. I’m in the process of testing them, but I feel like they should all go for a pretty penny. Maybe two! I found some other things, but those were definitely the highlight of the day. I just love that it was my very first uncertain stop. As I was leaving, I heard several other people ask about his consoles. Apparently, the seller had updated his listing to include these items and I just fully stumbled upon them. I love when that happens. I’ll update when I figure out if they work and how much they end up going for. 😊
